DIY Clean Deodorant

After reading about all of the harsh chemicals that are contained in a stick of deodorant {checkout this article}, I decided to make my own and I couldn't be happier! Here is the recipe I used:

  • 1/3 cup arrowroot powder (purchase HERE)
  • 1/3 cup baking soda
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil (purchase HERE)
  • 1 teaspoon of shaved bees wax (purchase HERE)
  • 2 teaspoons of Shea butter (purchase HERE)
  • 10 drops of Lavender essential oil
  • And any of the following oils based on your preference:
  • 5 drops of Protective Blend essential oil
  • 5 drops of Joyful Blend essential oil
  • 5 drops of Wild Orange essential oil
  • 5 drops of Frankincense essential oil
  • 5 drops of Melaleuca essential oil(helps with body odor)

*You can use any essential oils that you prefer

(I purchased a majority of the ingredients - bees wax, shea butter, arrowroot powder, deodorant containers, etc on Amazon.com after doing a price comparison with Whole Foods/Clarks/Sprouts)

To make the deodorant, I used an empty deodorant stick, however, you can also pour the mixture into a small glass jar with a lid.

I combined all the ingredients and then poured them into the empty deodorant stick. I placed the deodorant stick in the freezer over night and used it the next morning.

This recipe makes 2 deodorant bars, I double or triple, to save time in the future.

*If you are prone to dry skin, you may want to add some vitamin E oil or shea butter.

A note on essential oil quality: I only use the highest quality, therapeutic grade essential oils.  All of these suggestions are based off the assumption that high-quality essential oils are being used.
